Cabaret-Rouge British Cemetery, Souchez, France

On the night of 26th April, 1916, 6th London of 140 Brigade, 47th Division, relieved 19th London into the front line trenches on the northern part of the Vimy Ridge in the sector astride the Rabineau communication trench. The day before, the Germans had exploded a mine here which caused a 40 foot wide crater and demolished the front line trench. During this relief the enemy kept up a heavy shelling of these positions and 2 men, one of whom was Charles Diggins, were killed
